So, like any rational person, I figured that the song probably lost something in the conversion, decided I would withhold judgement until I managed to see the group live and forgot about it. When I first saw Stylo, as, keep in mind, I'd been waiting patiently for a new Gorillaz phase for quite some time at that point, I felt the bass synth hurt my ears and the song itself lacked any of the lavish soul I'd come to expect from the group. The exact meaning of what's going on seems to escape at times, but this little groove-blaster has the capacity, like the greatest of Gorillaz songs, to provide new experience every time it is listened to.
